She made history as the first Asian American elected to the Cary Town Council. Her election to the General Assembly in 2022 further cemented her role as a trailblazer in North Carolina politics, making her one of the first Asian American women to serve in the state legislature.

Maria Cervania is a public health expert, community advocate, and dedicated legislator representing NC 41st House District in western Wake County.
